Connecting dogs with their forever homes
How do shelter dogs find their forever homes? How do young adults find their perfect dog? CityPups answers that question by connecting users to adoptable dogs from shelters in their area. Prior research indicated that adopters focus on practical compatibility as well as personality and behavior. Easier access to information and descriptions of available dogs may improve the user experience.
As UX/UI designer, I conducted research and testing to design intuitive, easy-to-use search and filter features in addition to descriptive dog profiles that help users to find their perfect new pet.
Research & Architecture
Inspiration from competitors
Petfinder
filter menu is open on all results pages
users can search for specific characteristics
Levi’s
layered menu accesses subcategories
side menu on results page filters in real time
End-to-end user map
Storyboard
The goal of this flow is to allow users to begin searching for dogs that suit them. First the user would search by the most basic criteria – their city – then filter results by further specifications. While many filters can be added, this basic flow focuses on searching by breed.
Prototyping & Testing
Testing
Five participants were asked to search for and adopt a young pit bull named Rockette.
All five participants completed this task in under five minutes
Completed initial search and filter without issue
Potential further development of dogs’ profiles and filter options
